MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Aluminum-zinc-coated steel has a surface coating consisting of a mixture of 55% aluminum, 43% zinc and 2% silicon. Its corrosion resistance is significantly better than that of hot-dip galvanized steel. How much better depends on the surrounding environment. Thanks to the high aluminum content, aluminum-zinc-coated steel can withstand high temperatures without discoloring and its light-reflecting appearance also makes it suitable for suitable for applications such as roofing. Aluminum-zinc-coated steel is available in thicknesses of approximately 0,3 to 2,0 mm.

Steel grades

Mild steels:
Used when forming and stamping properties are more important than strength properties. Available in grades from DX51D to DX54D.

Structural steel:
Used for strength-calculated structures within the construction industry. Suitable for roll forming and simple bending.

Mechanical Properties – Mild Steel

EN 10346:2015 Yield strength Re (N/mm²) Tensile strength Rm (N/mm²) Elongation A80 min. (%)*
DX51D +AZ Min. 140 270-500 22
DX52D +AZ 140-300 270-420 26
DX53D +AZ 140-260 270-380 30
DX54D +AZ 120-220 260-350 36

Values are based on samples taken across the rolling direction.
*) For t ≤ 0,70 mm a value two units lower applies.

Surface

Surface appearance: Aluminium-zinc coated steel is produced with a normal spangle pattern, formed through the natural crystallisation of the coating.

Surface quality

A (Normal surface) Minor pores, variations in the spangle pattern, dark spots, streaks and small passivation marks are permitted. Stretcher-strain marks and zinc run-off marks may occur.
B (Improved surface) Skin-passed material. Minor defects such as stretcher-strain marks, skin-pass marks, scratches, indentations, spangle pattern, zinc run-off marks and faint passivation marks may occur. The surface is free from pores.

Our standard is coating weight AZ150, surface quality A and surface treatment C. Meets the requirements of the RoHS Directive.

O Oiling
CO Chemical passivation + oiling
S Special passivation treatment (Anti-Fingerprint)

Thickness tolerances

Thickness tolerances, according to EN 10143:2006 (for steel with a specified min. yield strength < 260)

Nominal thickness (mm) Thickness tolerances for nominal width (mm)
≤ 1200 > 1200 ≤ 1500 > 1500
> 0,35 ≤ 0,40 ± 0,04 ± 0,05 –
> 0,40 ≤ 0,60 ± 0,04 ± 0,05 ± 0,06
> 0,60 ≤ 0,80 ± 0,05 ± 0,06 ± 0,07
> 0,80 ≤ 1,00 ± 0,06 ± 0,07 ± 0,08
> 1,00 ≤ 1,20 ± 0,07 ± 0,08 ± 0,09
> 1,20 ≤ 1,60 ± 0,10 ± 0,11 ± 0,12
> 1,60 ≤ 2,00 ± 0,12 ± 0,13 ± 0,14

For yield strength ≥ 260 to < 360 N/mm² tolerances are increased by approx. 20%.
For yield strength ≥ 360 to ≤ 420 N/mm² tolerances are increased by approx. 40%.
Tighter tolerances available at an additional cost.
